I’m trying out this “nolisting” idea which is, really clever. Of course I read about it on slashdot. I’ll be very interested to see how well it works on apokalyptik.com e-mail. If I remember both to check and to report I’ll put up some graphs. This post ought to serv both as a reminder for that and *when* the implementation was done. This way I’ll be able to spot the, hopeful, drop off on my graphs.
How did you go with the nolisting? I am interested to know if it was worth the effort or not.
Well it turns out that a number of valid (and I use the term loosely) MTA's on the internet dont like this and permanently bombed out, leaving mail undelivered to bounce at a later date. In a perfect world, those MTAs (I'll let you make guesses at which ones didn't like it) would do what they're supposed to do. But then in a perfect world the spammer MTAs would also. I don't think it's worth it unless you're willing to accept that some domains will simply not talk to you any longer. If you're a person? great. if you're a company? not so great. Up to you. Trying it was easy, but waiting for the bounces is a pain (some MTAs wait a long time before finally bouncing mail) If you find differently… let me know!
