Tag anything, anywhere?

I’ve not been able to find anything really high profile (good google page rank) but is there an API which allows you to tag *anything* anywhere? (not just URLS, but… any piece of data?) Being able to take one arbitrary identifier, optionally a type, and add arbitrary tags to it sounds like the stuff of web 2.0, yea? but seems people are just home-brewing their own. Now if I were able to go somewhere and /tags/people/demitrious or /tags/blogs/demitrious or /tags/*/demitrious or /tags/urls/apokalyptik.com /tags/foo/bar then we’d be getting somewhere

  1. With del.icio.us you can tag anything. Most people use traditional urls (http://….) but you can really stuff any kind of data. Del was originally meant to be a memory tool, not just a bookmarking service. So you can do cool thinks like create any urn/uri bookmark it, add a title, description and tags.

  2. I've been wondering pretty much the same thing, and have been frustrated as, one by one, everything that starts out looking like a good lead turns out either to be a paid service, or to speacialize in only one particular thing (like 'recipes' or 'jobs').

  3. I am thinking about the same thing. I know there are formats like RDF to describe URN/URI's. Did you find anything already? Are you using it? Or do you have plans to develop one your own?
